Hard Copy: Can be dropped off at the Banner Studio at North Town Centre Mall (close to the liquor store and beside ART 10) starting February 18th.
At this time you will be able to set up your dates for painting.
Due to the the late start of the Banners this year we are asking people to be able to paint ASAP starting February 18.

The painting studio is in need of rigid juice bottles with lids and 500 mil or less plastic containers with lids for paint. If you can help by bringing any you may have to the banner studio that would be greatly appreciated!
For the past 31 years, professional artists and amateur painters have come together each spring to create beautiful works of art in the form of street banners. These colourful, hand-painted banners are installed on special lampposts on important streets around Nanaimo for everyone to enjoy from May to October. Festival of Banners brings people together to share their skill, learn from each other and have fun. Then the banners add colour and vibrancy to our city streets. Come and be apart of this vibrant and creative festival!
How It Works
-Create an original design based on our 2019 theme.
-Submit your design, completed entry form and a $20 entry fee by March 31, 2019.
-Entries are accepted on a first come, first serve basis. The submissions deadline may be extended depending on the number of entries received.
-Designs are deemed suitable by the Festival of Banners project coordinator.
-You will be contacted by our project coordinator to schedule painting times or when you submit your hardcopy you can schedule your painting time between February 18 and April 19. -Your original design will be traced on both sides of a blank banner and ready to paint when you arrive.
-All materials are supplied and all painting must be done on site. You are welcome to bring your own brushes if you wish.
-Banners take time to complete. Plan for two to five days of painting.
-Once the banners are installed just before May long weekend, take a tour and find your original artwork displayed on the street.
-Designs must be submitted on a piece of medium weight card stock; 4 inches wide by 8 inches high.
-Designs may be submitted online, simply scan and submit as a JPEG.
-Designs must be original finished artwork and completely coloured. Simple graphic designs tend to be the most effective. No letters, numbers, symbols or logos.
-Designs must be hand drawn and outlined in extra fine black 'sharpie'.
-Write your name, address and contact information along with he title of your work on the back of the design card.

No banners will be pre-sold. Sales will only take place after the city takes them down.
A $10 non-refundable reservation fee will be charged if you wish to reserve a banner.
