-Maximum of four written works in the following forms may be submitted: script, memoir/personal essay, short stories, and poems. Each work may be up to 2000 words per submission, but poetry must not exceed 750 per submission in .doc or .docx file type..
- Submissions must include a brief cover letter with your contact information: email, telephone, and full mailing address. The cover letter should also include a short biography of yourself and any publication history, if applicable.
-Please DO NOT submit works that contain profanity, pornography, or explicit erotica.


-Must be 300 dpi minimum, and .jpg or .png file type.
-Maximum of 5 pieces in any combination of the following mediums: photography, digital art, collage, prints, comics/comic strips, drawings, and paintings.

NOTE: -Previously self-published art and writing will be accepted, ie. work that has been posted to personal Instagram accounts or blogs. Previously published art and writing will be accepted with permission from the previous publisher(s).

In Our Own Aboriginal Voice 2 Submission Guidelines

Open to Aboriginal (status or non- status) writers in Canada. 


Two categories: adult (aged 20+), and youth (aged 15-19).  
Short fiction, memoirs, poetry, or scripts must contain Indigenous content. No entry fee.  


Submissions:  Length - max 2000 words / Poetry - max 750 words.  No entry fee. Participants may enter up to four submissions. Submissions will only be accepted from Aboriginal residents of Canada and must include name, address, telephone, and Aboriginal heritage.


Format -Email entries only, accepted in Word (doc or docx) as an attachment to the email. PDF not accepted. All pieces must be original. Previously self-published material is accepted. Title your story, and include your name on first page of the story. All rights for written work belong to the author.

Judges- The writing and art submissions to be published in the book: will be selected by our Aboriginal judges which includes Aboriginal author, Richard Van Camp.


Partial proceeds of In Our Own Aboriginal Voice 2 -will be donated to the Tsawalk Learning Center, Nanaimo. The foreword will be written by Chief and author, Edmund Metatawabin.
​Selected stories will be published in paperback as, In Our Own Aboriginal Voice 2: to be released Fall 2018 by Rebel Mountain Press. Each selected author will receive one free copy of the book. Copies will also be available at regional libraries and book stores across Canada. Published authors will be invited to publicly read their stories at various literary venues.
