“Poets on the Beach” the first in the series of spoken word artist events

This free, casual hour will feature 5 poets, three of which reside in Nanoose Bay, all on the beautiful beach setting of Dorcas Point Beach.

Poets, in no particular order:
David Fraser is a poet, spoken-word performer, publisher and editor. He lives in Nanoose Bay, BC, Vancouver Island, Canada. His poetry has appeared in many journals and anthologies, including Rocksalt, An Anthology of Contemporary BC Poetry (Mother Tongue Press), Poems from Planet Earth (Leaf Press),Walk Myself Home (Caitlin Press) and recently Tesseracts 18. He has published six collections of poetry. His most recent collection is After All the Scissor Work is Done, Leaf Press, April 2016 which has been shortlisted for the 2017 ReLit Awards for poetry. Also in April 2017 David received the Federation of BC Writers Honorary Ambassador of the Year Award.
Pat Smekal loves her home, family, friends, Australian pelicans, avocados, and words. Her poetry has won a number of prizes and has been widely published in Canada and abroad. An enthusiastic member of the WordStorm Society of the Arts and the Federation of BC Writers, Pat, a.k.a. “Jazz”, frequently reads her work at events on Vancouver Island and beyond.
Nanoose Bay Spoken Word Artist, Writer and Poet Susan Pederson has read her work on several CBC broadcasts; has written for the Globe and Mail and is the creator of 3 Generations/6 Words, a spoken word event featuring performances with local Poets Pat Smekal and Taryn Pickard. A regular performer at 15 Minutes of Infamy, she has published several collections of her poems. As a freelance copywriter, she writes magazine articles, marketing materials, websites and blogs
Taryn Pickard has been writing poetry since she was 10 and is a new addition to the spoken word scene. She is also a professional photographer and has had her writing and photography published in various places, such as A Mind’s Eye and Ripe with Rags. While words and pictures are her passion, she also holds a degree in Geography with a focus in Urban Planning, a welding ticket and is a yoga instructor, all of which inform her world view and her work.
