We are inviting everyone in the greater Nanaimo region to participate in the creation of a mural that will add colour to our downtown.
The owners of the Gusola Block have graciously agreed to allow us to create a mural on the side of their building. The area is approximately 10 feet wide by 16 and a half feet high. It is in an extremely prominent part of our downtown, on a building with some considerable historic and architectural value. The primary criteria is the suitability of the design with respect to the significance of the public space it will impact.
NAC is organizing an open competition for the design of the mural. The winning designer will receive $1000 and the mural will be brought to life by professional muralists.
All of this will take place over this summer and conclude with a great unveiling party during Culture Days on the last weekend of September.
Deadline for mural proposals is July 27, 2018.
We are asking for the proposal designs to be submitted to the NAC office at 78 Wharf St.
The deign must be on paper, preferably proportional to the final design. A brief statement of intent, and a brief description of the materials, along with your name and contact information on a separate piece of paper will also be required.
The first design proposal will be free. Subsequent design proposals will require a $40 entry fee.
All the designs will be showcased at our gallery from July 28-31.
The winning design will be announced on July 31.
